WINDSOR - Ayad and Imad Saddy opened their sliver of a store in Windsor's downtown just as most other retailers were abandoning it.

Their Ouellette Avenue men's clothing store has survived eight years and even expanded in the midst of the recession.

BB Branded, which carries top brands and designer labels, first opened its doors in 2004 as a six-foot wide sliver on the block.

The store grew to 2,600 square feet in 2009 when Ayad, 28, and Imad, 30, bought the adjacent building previously owned by IQ Clothing Co.

"We believe in making people happy. Our customer service is the most important thing to us - our clients being 100 per cent happy," Ayad offered as one of the reasons his business has prevailed. "And the quality of the product itself, too."

You won't find the same shoes on Footlocker or SportChek shelves, Ayad said. "BB Branded is the store for people who are looking for something different."

It was the brothers' determination and yearlong wait that landed them an exclusive deal with Nike five years ago.

The account gives BB Branded territorial rights that prevent stores within the region from carrying the same Nike specialty products.

It also means BB Branded is the only store in Windsor to receive a pair of the limited edition Nike Air Foamposite One Galaxy shoes. They are selling for as much as $10,027 on eBay and sending throngs of waiting customers out of control.

Florida police dressed in riot gear were forced to break up unruly shoppers Thursday who were waiting to purchase the sneakers from an Orlando Foot Locker, according to a CBS report.

The Saddy brothers are giving out raffle tickets to customers who purchase any Nike or Jordan shoes until Monday.

The winner will then be able to purchase the size 10½ size sneakers with glow in the dark soles for $279.

"I hope it goes to someone who truly loves shoes," said the store's shoeblogging expert, Tony Oliverio, 31.

When Oliverio is not busy matching shoes to feet, he blogs on behalf of the store about his passion - sneakers.

Ayad said social media helps reach customers outside of the city and has advanced business.

"But the Nike account is what really gave us a boost," Ayad said.

Landing the account had a domino effect and brought in big names like Supra, Adidas, New Era and Converse, he said.

With the brand names came the customers. Ayad said he often meets shoppers from the United States and some as far as Toronto.

"The American dollar hit us hard and the construction hit us harder," Ayad said about major streetscaping and roadwork on Ouellette three years ago. "Since then business has increased."

Imad said he and his brother learned the basics of running a business from their father Radhi, 55, who owned a jewelry shop in Iraq where they grew up.

"I learned a lot from my dad," Imad said. "He taught us how to run a business and to have a good work ethic."

"I guess you can say that we're proud that we made it, but we owe it to the locals that supported us," Ayad said.

The winning name for the limited edition shoes will be drawn at the store Monday at 6 p.m. For more information go to bbbranded.com.

On March 19, 1995, Michael Jordan returned to the game of basketball in his city installment of the Air Jordan 10. While his shoe selection was no surprise, the fact that his teammate Scottie Pippen shelved his own PE's to support him was a testament to Pip’s unselfishness and team mentality. 2011 was an outstanding year for Air Jordan Retros, with neck-breaking releases coming at us every month – Sneaker News could’ve done a Top 30 list with just Jordans! But Jordan Brand isn’t about to put a stop to its unrelenting release schedule because this Fall 2012 season, we can expect quite a handful. Confirmed for this Fall 2012 cycle are the re-releases of the Air Jordan IV 'Mars', Air Jordan VI ‘Olympic’, Air Jordan VII ‘Raptors’, and the Air Jordan VII ‘Olympic’; some notes to consider are that the Mars IV will not feature the Spike logo, and the ‘Olympic’ VII will likely be sans-FTLOTG gold stitched logo as well (more like the earlier release). Some new colorways that should be hitting us is the oft-discussed Air Jordan VI,VII, Olympic pack and an Air Jordan IV ’23rd Anniversary’, that should be a huge hit given this year’s milestone for the Air Jordan IV. Dave White has made an internationally recognized name with his sneaker art for his signature side-profile, paint-splattered imagery. Do we have another Dave White on our hands? Sneaker News just stumbled upon kick Draw, a tumblr account featuring new drawings of some of the most historic sneakers of all time. The left-shoe profile shots are done in photo-realistic cartoon-ish styles, with solid-colored backgrounds providing a nice contrast. It appears that the author/illustrator updates with ‘trending’ sneakers, as he’s recently updated with the Jordan CP3 (releasing next week), thenike Zoom KD IV (released early December), and theAdidas AdiPower Howard (released November). Lots of news about Jordan Brand packaging this week, as Monday brought news of an updated box and label for next year followed by a look at a super-limited promo box for the Air Jordan XI Retro ‘Concord’ crafted in wood and individually numbered. Today, it’s something a bit more directly related to the shoes themselves, or at least in terms of proximity. The Air Jordan X Retro ‘Chicago’ is shown off in advance of its January 21st release, now featuring not one but two new hangtags. One is a nice translucent ‘X’ in matte red with ‘Air Jordan Collection’ in its crux, the other a black Jumpman on one side and the Ten’s signature checkerboard lining pattern on the reverse. The blend together beautifully and raise the level of luxury on the first Air Jordan Retro for 2012 to unexpected heights. The Air Jordan 14 “Last Shot” comes back in just a few days but before they release, we’d like to give you a bit of history with the inspiration behind design. The Air Jordan 14 was inspired by the Ferrari F355F1 Michael Jordan owned during his last days as a Chicago Bull. The 14 incorporated just about every detail from the Ferrari F355F1, including the logos, tires and shank plate on the bottom. Perhaps the Black and Red colorway also used inspiration and coincidentally matched the Chicago Bulls Away jersey. The Air Jordan 14 “Last Shot” returns on December 17th at the only sneaker boutique BB Branded.

It’s been awhile since Jordan Brand released a Collezione Pack and next year, you can expect a pack to release to coincide with the 2012 Olympics. Releasing in August of 2012, is the “Olympic” pack that will consist of an Air Jordan 6 Retro and the Air Jordan 7. As of now, We don’t know the colorways that will be featured in this pack but we can tell you that the Air Jordan 6 “Olympic” will not be part of the 6 / 7 collezione, as it will be released as a GR around summertime. Stay tuned for more news on the Air Jordan 6 / 7 Olympic pack that releases next summer.

23 years ago the sneaker that almost never was propelled the greatest there’s ever been to new heights. Individual and team accolades in the Air Jordan 3 cemented Michael Jordan’s status as the best in the game and a force for the future. In celebration of the sneaker’s return, we ran through MJ’s historic highlights in his storied signature. Take a look at the ten biggest moments and accomplishments by Mike in the silo that’s on everyone’s holiday wish list.

10.If KD or LeBron put up 35 points in a game you might say they “went off”. Imagine them doing that night in, night out, for every game of the season, making more shots than they missed. It happened in 1988. Mike’s offensive onslaught set new heights for what could be consistently done by a sub-seven footer and was a solid follow up to his ridiculous 37 a night season. The collection of totals consisted of 59 point drumming’s of the Bad Boy Pistons and 52 hot ones on Clyde’s Blazers. He did it all in Air Jordan 3 and he’d use three colorways.

9.Both of MJ’s basketball comebacks coincided with the return of the Jordan 3. While he elected the Air Jordan 10 over the recent re-retro in ’94, he sported both the “True Blues” and Black/Cements in the beginning days of his Wizard’s stint. Mike laced up the black pair as camera’s flashed days after his announcement and the uni-friendly colorway on court.

8.We know you know, you know, you know, but it’s hard to overstate the importance of Mars Blackmon and the Air Jordan line. Spike Lee’s character kicked off an incredible campaign for the Air Jordan 3 with many more to follow. His vocal leadership kept the Jordan line street smart and solidified MJ’s quiet cool.

6. Every year the NBA All-Star Game is a “Who’s the Man?” snapshot of the league with the star of the moment putting on a trophy worthy performance. Who else would take home the hardware in Chicago? Only years after being “froze-out” as a rookie, MJ asserted his dominance in front of a home crowd winning MVP honors with a 40 point, 8 boards, 3 dimes, 4 steals, and 4 blocks (that’s 8 stocks for you Simmons fans) stat line. Consider this a defining moment for the Black/Cement 3s.

5. Lot’s of guys grab scoring titles by ball hogging and mastering spots on the floor, but how many of them get it done on the other end? In 1988 MJ asserted his dominance not only as the league’s top scorer but also as the alpha dog on the defensive end. Highlights from the other side of the ball show a young Jordan swatting shots like a lankier Dwight Howard and hounding guards Dennis Rodman style. His gritty and triumphant play in the AJ3 resulted in the Defensive Player of the Year Award and his first of nine First Team All-Defense honors.

Legend has it that MJ was extremely close to ditching the Swoosh prior to his third signature. A guy named Tinker Hatfield changed the tune, saving the Air Jordan line and ultimately allowing all the great signatures that followed. We’ll never know what Mike’s kicks would’ve looked like had they donned a different logo or design team, but I think it’s safe to say we’re happy about the way it worked out.
